Collection, processing and storage of placenta

The placenta is a unique organ that appears in the woman’s body only during the pregnancy, which provides a link between the mother and the baby: gives him oxygen and nutrients, removes waste products

Having saved the placenta after giving birth, you have the opportunity to receive not only an additional number of stem cells, which will be the biological insurance of your child’s healthy future, but also the possibility to use its tissue and isolated extract for the beauty and health of all family members

Placental preparations made by our Cryobank from placental suspension are non-immunogenic, therefore they can be used by all family members

Options for saving the placenta:

  • Placental suspension with the possibility of allocating placental extract
  • Source for the obtaining of mesenchymal stem cell preparation
  • Placenta-derivedmesenchymal stem cells

In addition to biologically active substances that have a regulatory and restorative effect on the human body, the placenta is a rich source of mesenchymal and hematopoietic stem cells

Collection of the placenta

The collection is conducted by an obstetrician-gynecologist who takes delivery. This can be both physiological labor and cesarean section. The procedure for conducting the collection is regulated by the legislation of Ukraine (Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 481 of July 10, 2014)

The procedure is safe for mother and child and takes place without any contact with the baby

Placental Biospecimen Processing

Scientists of the Institute of Cell Therapy in accordance with international standards for the production of cellular and tissue preparations (FACT, GMP) have developed unique methods for the preservation of the placenta. The high-tech base of the Institute of Cell Therapy allows to introduce advanced quality standards in production processes

    1. Reception and preparation of the placenta for the production of placental biopreparations

Reception and production of placental biopreparations in the Cryobank, identification, registration, preparation of the necessary accompanying documentation and directions for testing

    2. Placental suspension production

      1. Antimicrobial treatment of the placenta, tissue preparation and dose distribution of the finished products incryovials

      2. Study of placenta preparations for the presence of infectious agents and sterility

      3. At the request of the client, Cryobank can produce an extract of the placenta from the prepared placental suspension

    3. Placental tissue production:

      1. Fragmentation of placental tissue

      2. Addition of cryopreservation medium

      3. Placement of placental tissue fragments in cryovials

      4. Testing for sterility and the presence of infectious agents and antibodies to them in accordance with the requirements of FACT

    4. The production of placental MSCs preparations

      1. Fragmentation of the placenta

      2. Isolation of the culture of placental mesenchymal stem cells

      3. Addition of cryopreservation medium

      4. The distribution of doses of cultured MSCs in cryovials

      5. Determination of quantitative and qualitative indicators

Cryopreservation, long-term storage

Using a programmed freezer, umbilical cord blood and / or umbilical cord tissue is cryopreserved

Frozen biospecimen is stored in Dewar vessels in liquid nitrogen at -196° С

You can get a sample of cord blood and/or umbilical cord on demand

If necessary, the Cryobank of the Institute of Cell Therapy can arrange for the safe delivery of the sample to any medical facility in Ukraine. The transportation of frozen biospecimenmust be carried out in a Dewar vessel in liquid nitrogen

Frequently asked questions
Where is placental tissue used?

The placenta is an organ of exceptional utility. Having saved it after giving birth, you have an opportunity to get not only an additional number of stem cells, which will be the biological insurance of your child’s healthy future, but also the possibility to use its tissue and isolated extract for the beauty and health of all family members

Where is placental extract applied?

For the first time in Ukraine, the patented methods of the Cryobank of the Institute of Cell Therapy allowed to produce unique biological preparations from the placenta, whose cosmetic effect can compete with invasive procedure

What do placental stem cells treat?

By preserving the placenta, you get an extra supply of stem cells that are unique in their cytochemical profile and unlimited possibilities of cell therapy

Unique properties of stem cells of the placenta:

1. High plasticity. When processed in the laboratory by special growth factors, it is possible to obtain bone, cartilage, skin, myocardium, and many other human tissues and organs.
2. Low immunogenicity. They do not cause immunological rejection, which allows the use of placental preparations for the treatment of all family members

Testing for sterility and the presents of infection agents and antibodies to them accordance with the requirements of FACT

Cryobank of the Institute of Cell Therapy is the only in Ukraine, that conducts expanded testing of the biological material due to FACT requirements

Hence, this is mandatory that biological material, collected at birth by the medical personnel and subsequently passed to the Cryobank is exposed to the following tests:

1.1. Maternal blood is tested for:

  • total antibodies to HIV1 / 2
  • DNA HIV 1 / 2
  • total antibodies to nuclear antigen of Hepatitis B virus (HbcorAg)
  • Hepatitis B DNA and /or HbsAg
  • total antibodies to Trepanema pallidum
  • total antibodies to HCV
  • Hepatitis C virus RNA
  • IgM antibodies to Cytomegalovirus
  • Cytomegalovirus DNA
  • Herpes 6 type DNA

1.2. Placental suspension is tested for:

  • Chlamydia trachomatis DNA
  • Mycoplasma DNA
  • Ureaplasma spp DNA
  • Sterility

1.3 Placental tissue is tested for:

  • Chlamydia trachomatis DNA
  • Mycoplasma DNA
  • Ureaplasma spp DNA
  • Cytomegalovirus DNA
  • Simple Herpes virus ½ type DNA
  • Sterility

1.4. Placental mesenchymal stem cells are tested for:
